As Texas Children’s has grown so has our clinical leadership team — with our in-chiefs at the top. Here is a little about those who help make our mission to deliver the highest quality care possible.



Larry H. Hollier Jr., MD
Surgeon-in-Chief

Dr. Larry H. Hollier Jr., our surgeon-in-chief, is a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in plastic and reconstructive surgery, including pediatric hand surgery, facial fractures, cranial vault remodeling, midfacial distraction, and mandibular distraction. Dr. Hollier trained under Dr. Joseph McCarthy, the first surgeon in the United States to perform a facial distraction.





Michael A. Belfort, MD, PhD
Obstetrician/Gynecologist-in-Chief

Obstetrician and Gynecologist-in-Chief, Dr. Michael A. Belfort serves as the medical director of Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women, which offers women a complete range of obstetric and gynecologic services. He is also chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Belfort has been actively engaged in shaping a new era at Texas Children’s as the hospital opened the Pavilion for Women and expanded into obstetrical and gynecological care to establish one of the nation’s premier centers for women’s, fetal and newborn health.






Dean B. Andropoulos, MD, M.H.C.M.
Anesthesiologist-in-Chief

Dr. Dean Andropoulos is anesthesiologist-in-chief at Texas Children’s Hospital, and professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics, and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego, and completed Pediatrics and Anesthesiology residencies at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Andropoulos leads a department of more than 65 fellowship trained and Board Certified Pediatric Anesthesiologists, 25 certified registered nurse anesthetists, 20 fellows and residents, and 20 pediatric nurse practitioners. Together, his team performs more than 40,000 anesthetics annually, ranging from simple outpatient surgeries, to complex cardiac and neurosurgical cases.





James Versalovic, MD, PhD
Pathologist-in-Chief

Dr. James Versalovic serves as pathologist-in-chief at Texas Children’s Hospital and as the director of Texas Children’s Microbiome Center. He is the Milton J. Finegold Professor and Vice Chair of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Versalovic’s main clinical interests are medical microbiology, molecular diagnostics of infectious diseases, microbiome science as it applies to pediatric gastroenterology, genomic and metagenomic medicine, and molecular pathology.





Thierry A.G.M. Huisman, MD, PD, EDiNR, EDiPNR, FICIS
Radiologist-in-Chief

Dr. Thierry Huisman serves as our radiologist-in-chief. Prior to coming to Texas Children’s Hospital, Dr. Huisman served as Chairman of the Department of Imaging and Imaging Science at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. In addition, he was Director of the Division of Pediatric Radiology and Pediatric Neuroradiology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and Co-Director of the Neurointensive Care Nursery, the Johns Hopkins Fetal Program and Center for Translational and Molecular Imaging. His primary field of expertise and research focuses on advanced, quantitative, precision imaging in the field of Pediatric Neuroradiology.
