Celebrating 65 Years
What can be accomplished in 65 years? The answer is — a lot. When you have a clear vision, the right people and a structure in place, the sky is the limit.
Maxims of Leadership
Years ago, Texas Children’s President and CEO Mark A. Wallace created his 10 Leadership Maxims to guide the organization and its culture.
Cultivating leadership at all levels
One of our mantras at Texas Children’s is that we all are leaders, no matter our position in the organization or our title.
2019 was another productive year for Texas Children’s. As I look back, I’m grateful for how much we have to celebrate, including a milestone anniversary marking 65 years of serving children and women across the globe.
Texas Children’s journey has been shaped by strong leaders – both past and present. Their legacy is at the foundation of who we are and has allowed us to become a world-class organization leading in pediatric care, education and research.
Just last year, we had:
• More than 40,000 surgeries
• 157,000-plus Emergency Center visits
• 4.6 million patient encounters
• More than 789,000 clinic visits
• 6,000-plus deliveries at Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women
• And, 36,372 hospital admissions ...
In 2019 — during our 65th anniversary — Texas Children’s was ranked No. 3 among all children’s hospitals in the nation – a ranking no other pediatric hospital in Texas has ever achieved. For the first time, Texas Children’s also ranked in the top 10 in each of the U.S. News & World Report-recognized pediatric sub-specialties. Six of our sub-specialties were ranked in the top three – two are ranked No. 1, two are ranked No. 2, and another two are ranked No. 3.
We also received accolades from several other institutions. Indeed named Texas Children’s the No. 4 workplace among the top 25 hospitals that have consistently earned high marks from current and past employees on the world’s top-rated job site. Forbes ranked Texas Children’s as No. 276 among the best 500 large companies in the nation. And, locally, Texas Children’s came in as the fifth best place to work in Houston by Houston Business Journal.
As you can see, 2019 was a busy year for Texas Children’s. I hope you enjoy visiting our 2019: A year in review and reading about some of our remarkable milestones. We look forward to making each year better than the last.
