Texas Children’s Board of Trustees

Led by Chair Michael C. Linn and Vice Chair Kevin C. King, the Texas Children’s Board of Trustees has a deep commitment to providing exceptional health care to the children and women we serve. Several members of the Board have personal connections to Texas Children’s or to a pediatric health issue that affected them or their family.

Comprised of 35 Trustees, the Texas Children’s board is a diverse delegation of gender, race and religion, with three times the national average benchmark for gender diversity among non-profit boards. Each one of them provides a strong foundation for the organization since the hospital opened its doors 65 years ago.

As the governing body of Texas Children’s, the Board of Trustees works closely with President and CEO Mark A. Wallace to develop and review the hospital’s overall mission and strategy, and guide the long-term goals and policies for Texas Children’s. They also provide financial oversight and ensure the legal and ethical integrity of the organization as it carries out its mission to create a healthier future for children and women.

The Board has provided visionary leadership and has served as advocates for the hospital, supporting patient-centered quality and access initiatives, ensuring strong financial performance, building relationships in the community, and fostering support from our internal and external stakeholders. With their leadership, the hospital raised millions of dollars through the Promise Campaign to support our world-class division and centers of excellence, such as Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands and our state-of-the-art Lester and Sue Smith Legacy Tower that has enabled our hospital to provide quality care to the nation’s most critically ill patients.

Michael C. Linn

Michael C. Linn is Chair of the Texas Children’s Board of Trustees. Linn works closely with our president and CEO and executive leadership to help ensure the board’s goals, policies, and directives are carried out.

Linn was elected to the Texas Children’s Board of Trustees in 2008, and has served as Chair since 2018. Previously, he served as Vice Chair from 2016 - 2017. In addition to his board responsibilities, Linn chaired Promise: The Campaign for Texas Children’s Hospital along with his wife, Carol. Under the Linns’ leadership, the Promise Campaign raised over $578 million for Texas Children’s and its growing need to provide dedicated and specialized pediatric health care in Houston and surrounding communities.

Texas Children’s holds a special place in the Linn’s hearts. Michael’s son, Matthew, died at the age of seven after undergoing surgery in Boston for a congenital heart defect. Due to the research being done at Texas Children’s and other leading institutions, tremendous advances have been made in this area since Matthew’s passing, and Carol and Michael are dedicated to ensuring that all children receive the care they need.

Linn is currently a senior advisor with Quantum Energy Partners and president and CEO of MCL Ventures LLC, an oil/gas/real estate investment firm. He is also the founder and former chairman, CEO, and president of LINN Energy, LLC.
